Enquin, a UKAS-accredited Asbestos Consultancy with over two decades of expertise, were appointed to provide comprehensive Asbestos Management Services for the ambitious Brabazon Hangar development project. Located at the former Filton Airfield in Bristol, UK, this historic hangar, once a hub for aerospace innovation and the production of Concorde, is being transformed into a vibrant mixed-use space featuring event spaces, residential, commercial, and community areas.
Given the scale and complexity of the Refurbishment and Demolition works, Enquin’s role was critical in ensuring compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012, safeguarding workers, and enabling the project to progress smoothly. Their involvement spanned significant Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys, Tender Review, Contractor Assessment and ongoing consultancy support throughout the development.

Enquin Environmental adopted a multi-faceted approach to address these challenges. They began with detailed Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys, adhering to HSG 264 guidelines and their ISO 17020/17025 accreditation standards. Their experienced surveyors conducted intrusive inspections across the hangars and cluster buildings, identifying and documenting ACMs in areas slated for refurbishment or demolition.
This included hard-to-access zones such as the circa 35m high hangar ceiling area using specialised equipment, ensuring no risks were overlooked. Following the surveys, Enquin produced a comprehensive specification for Asbestos Removal and helped manage the tendering process. This included helping vet potential contractors, evaluating tender submissions, and providing impartial recommendations to the client. Throughout the project, Enquin offered ongoing Consultancy support while maintaining open communication with the development team to align with project milestones. During the survey, care and planning were required to ensure public events were not affected via close liaison with the on-site maintenance team.
