Introduction
Enquin have been offering Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust a comprehensive range of Asbestos Services that fully comply with UK asbestos regulations for almost 10 years. These services encompass Management Surveys for newly acquired sites, refurbishment surveys aligned with planned works, and annual Re-Inspection Surveys for sites with identified asbestos. Additionally, Enquin project manages Asbestos Removal Services when needed and provides all necessary air monitoring. Enquin also update the Trust’s online Asbestos Management database software, MiCad. Enquin also provides UKATA accredited Asbestos Awareness Training (AAT) to key staff.
Challenge
The Trust have a wide variety of property types and ages spread throughout the county with varying asbestos content. The historic asbestos data was fragmented and of questionable quality. The Trust required a comprehensive review of their existing asbestos information and a gap analysis undertaken with appropriate solutions implemented to ensure compliance with current UK asbestos legislation and guidance. The Trust hold their asbestos information on the MiCad database system which was not always updated to accurately reflect changes to the asbestos containing materials (ACMs). The sensitive nature of many of the properties and access constraints also poses challenges.

Solution and Approach
Enquin undertook new asbestos management surveys of the entire portfolio and updated MiCad to accurately reflect the location and condition of the ACMs at each site. Priority assessments were also undertaken and recommendations recorded for all items. The survey programme was created in close collaboration with the client to ensure minimum disruption to patients and staff. Following completion of the surveys any ACMs requiring remediation were discussed with the client and appropriate action was arranged by Enquin who coordinated the asbestos removal works in conjunction with independent licensed asbestos removal contractors. Following any asbestos works the asbestos information was updated on MiCad by Enquin. Prior to any planned building works Enquin are engaged to undertake Refurbishment/Demolition surveys ensuring works can proceed safely.
Results and Benefits
Strong relationships with the Trust’s staff members have been built over almost a decade of working together and surveyors are familiar with site specific access arrangements which helps to ensure that the annual re-inspections run smoothly. Enquin staff are fully conversant with the MiCad system & ensure it is kept up to date following completion of any asbestos works. The Trust have confidence that their buildings are safe from asbestos risk and are compliant. Enquin staff regularly answer ad hoc queries and give advice to our client over the phone on asbestos matters and attend quarterly progress meetings ensuring effective communication. Monthly reports are produced by Enquin detailing all asbestos works undertaken & this is reviewed against the Trust’s KPIs. Enquin consistently exceeds the target levels for all criteria.
