Introduction
Enquin have been providing GDST with a comprehensive range of asbestos services for almost 10 years, to ensure their compliance with UK asbestos regulations. Services include undertaking Management Surveys for their existing and newly acquired sites, refurbishment surveys aligned with planned works, and annual reinspection surveys for sites with identified asbestos. Additionally, Enquin project manages asbestos removal services when needed and provides all necessary air monitoring.
Challenge
GDST operates 23 independent schools and 2 academies across the UK, with buildings that vary significantly in age, size, and associated asbestos risk. By 2017, their asbestos records had become incomplete and unreliable, prompting GDST to commission Enquin to undertake updated Management Surveys across the entire estate. Given the nature of the properties and the need to avoid disruption to school activities, all survey work was scheduled during holidays and half‑term breaks, allowing the project to be delivered safely and efficiently.

Solution and Approach
Enquin completed Management surveys for all properties and subsequently oversaw a programme of remediation works where required. This ensured every site met current UK asbestos legislation and best‑practice guidance. Following the completion of the surveys, any ACMs requiring remediation were discussed with the client and appropriate action was arranged by Enquin who coordinated the asbestos removal works in conjunction with independent licensed asbestos removal contractors.
Prior to any planned building works Enquin are engaged to undertake Refurbishment/Demolition surveys ensuring works can proceed safely.
Results and Benefits
Following the initial phase of Management Surveys, Enquin has continued to carry out all annual Reinspections directly with each school. This regular on‑site presence ensures consistent communication and helps build strong working relationships with school staff. Enquin’s team also provides ongoing support by responding to ad hoc asbestos queries and offering expert advice over the phone. Whenever refurbishment projects are proposed, Enquin is contacted at the earliest planning stage. This early involvement has repeatedly proven valuable, enabling efficient coordination, accurate scoping for the surveys, and smooth project delivery.
